Reorder, move or delete book chapters
Books grow a chapter at a time, and they rarely arrive in order — a chapter lands in the wrong book, or an early attempt hangs around after the real one is written. Here's how to put things right on the Books screen.
- 1Tap Books in the left railIt's the last icon in the top group (point at it and its name shows). On a phone, tap More, then Books. My Books lists each book with how many chapters it has.
- 2Tap your book to open its chapter listThe chapters appear under it in order, each with a trash icon at the right end — and Move to… beside it once you have more than one book.
- 3Drag a chapter by the grip at its left edgeOn a computer, point at a chapter and a grip appears at its left edge. Drag the chapter up or down and drop it where it belongs — the new order saves by itself.
- 4To move a chapter to another book, tap Move to… on its rowA list of your other books opens. It only shows when you have two or more books — make the second one with New book first.
- 5Pick the book it belongs inThe chapter leaves this book and becomes the last chapter of the one you picked, text and name unchanged. It moves rather than copies. Drag it into place there if it belongs earlier.
- 6To delete a chapter, tap the trash icon on its rowNothing is deleted yet — the trash turns into a red Delete button.
- 7Tap Delete to confirmThe chapter is gone for good, with no undo. A second tap that comes too quickly is ignored, so a double-tap can't delete by accident, and tapping anywhere else or waiting a few seconds cancels.
Good to know
- Rename a book with Rename on its row: type the new title, then press Enter or tap away.
- Deleting a whole book (the trash on the book's own row, then Delete) keeps its chapters — they become ordinary chats in Chat History.
- A chapter's own name is changed from the title field at the top of its canvas.
- There's no way to download a whole book in one go — each chapter exports on its own from its canvas.
If it’s not working
I can't find Books
It only appears once you have a book. Pick Book / Chapter from Turn into at the top of a draft's canvas, and Aligned starts one for you.
There's no Move to… on my chapters
It needs somewhere to go: with only one book there's nothing to move to. Tap New book at the top of the Books screen, then Move to… appears.
I can't drag chapters on my phone
Reordering is done by dragging on a computer, where the grip shows when you point at a chapter. Open Aligned on a computer to put chapters in order.
It says “Couldn't move that chapter. Try again.”
The move didn't go through and the chapter stayed where it was. Check your connection and try again. “Couldn't delete that chapter” works the same way.
